My second LUV...

I like v8 mini trucks... there, I said it...

I bought a 1976 Chevy LUV project from a friend and pulled the 305 engine/7004 trans out of it, as well as the 7.5 s10 rear...

This is how I got it, minus the hood, I picked that up off CL for a different project...

The center of the core support had been removed at some point. I used a donor piece and added it back. I also ordered a custom radiator, it has a divorced filler neck the allows me to utilize the core support...

I replaced the rockers, this is the only filler on the truck...

I also installed a trans tunnel section out of a late 70's truck. Here it is after I Por 15'ed the floor...

I had the frame hydro blasted, then I painted it and redid the front suspension. I then dropped in the power train. It has a vortec headed small block (pump gas, this will be a driver) along with a 4l80e trans (plenty of room with the newly installed trans tunnel). I also added a 9 inch rear with a posi disc brakes, etc...

I put the fuel cell and battery under the bed...

You gain access to them via these openings in the bed floor...

And for easier access...

I reinstalled the cab, hung the doors, and installed a REALLY poorly fitting Fiberglass hood. This thing was BAADDD...

All the edits are due to a board error I believe. I type like old people fornicate, and it still tells me I have to wait 30 seconds between posts, lol...

Anyways, I have custom billet front hubs for a 5 on 4-3/4 front hub pattern, I have sourced hard to find bumpers and had them rechromed (anything for a LUV is getting hard to find nowdays) I have NOS front and rear window seals from Cyprus for exampple, and I had a square tube grille built and chromed (going retro with this truck) and I have a 1968 Camaro automatic console with a B&M Quicksilver shifter, and 1966 Mustang bucket seats...

I have not finished this one, but i have fired it. Once I get it sorted out, I need about 20 hours more body work and I can spray it, then it will be upholstery time...

And while it doesn't look like much, it took all day to do it...

Cut a piece of anodized diamond plate to fit, mounted the through bolts with countersunk screws to hold the bed sides at the bottom, then mounted the access doors for the battery and fuel fill. Then masked off and bedlined the bed sides, tail gate, and front bed panel. Then installed the stainless bolts for the bed side fenders. Also, not shown, but the new chains for the tail gate are on as well...

Reinstalled the dash today, built out and refinished the 68 Camaro console, reworked the trans tunnel to make removing the trans easier in the future, and installed both the bumpers...

For today's update, I installed the rear view mirror and visors, trimmed the console to fit, and installed it, and installed the console gauge pod and gauged, and fabbed up a gauge panel for the dash. The reason for this, is I didn't like the digital gauge set up i had, it just didn't fit the theme of the build i was going for. The fuel gauge doesn't work, and didn't on the other set up, got to trace that out, and although the new gauges were to come with senders, mine didn't have a temp sender. The oil pressure gauge didn't work with the sender for the other set up, so i hope that is the case for the temp gauge as well...

The dash panel is aluminum, and in this pic, is just roughed in, I ran out of time for the day. I am going to brush it, but if it is still shiny, I will paint it black...

Going old skool! And what a PITA to cobble together in this little truck... MUCH quieter than the Purple Hornie headers mufflers that were on it...

Health issues (for me, and a couple of family members) have prevented me from getting back to this until today. I had a carb issue, as noted a few pages back, when I got it running, and swapped to a different carb, but it had a blown power valve, so it was always hard to start, and ran, but not crisply. Swapped over to another supposedly "good" carb, that I got in trade, and promptly had to rebuild it (I hate ethanol fuel). Still popping occasionally through the carb at idle, and poor throttle response. Tore down the carb that has been on it, all looked good, except for the blown power valve, and replaced it. Same issue. The intake was sucking air along the gaskets. Retorqued them, and Sweet times are here. Absolutely no traction through the first 3 gears now...

I still have to finish up the gauges, and finish the side pipes. Then buy some drag radials I guess, even though this is a driver...
